The South Side Irish St. Patrick’s Day Parade was canceled Wednesday morning due to concerns over the coronavirus.
The St. Patrick’s Day Parade in downtown Chicago, which was scheduled to take place Saturday, was also canceled.
The South Side Irish Parade would have taken place Sunday afternoon along Western Avenue in Chicago’s Beverly neighborhood. The parade dates back to 1979.
The parades have been canceled because of the fear of having thousands of people in one area that could result in the spread of the virus.
