Leeza Campbell, Dorothy Kalafut and Zoe Monks headed up the latest group of honorees. Each girl was awarded eight letters. Sarah Klawitter, Jacquet McClendon and Corey Miller were right behind them with seven apiece, while Will Jones, Colleen Elzinga, Jaymell Sheppard and Kelly Shine all collected six letters.
Rounding out the list of inductees were Tre’Shawn Burks, Alex Cheatham, Kevin Farmer, Nick Knieps, Justin Houle, Meghan Kress, Tobi Oladejo and Juwan Smith.
Marist splits pair of ESCC volleyball matches
Despite engaging in a spirited three-game battle, Marist came up short against Benet Academy in an East Suburban Catholic Conference boys’ volleyball match.
But after suffering a gut-wrenching 29-27, 20-25, 29-27 setback to the Redwings, the RedHawks rebounded to take down St. Patrick (25-19, 25-22) in another conference clash. Spearheading Marist’s winning effort was Jake Moran, who registered five kills and six digs. Tom Inzinga equaled Moran’s kill total, while Nick O’Gorman chipped in four kills and a service ace.
Also lending a hand were Matt Munro (two blocks), Dan Anzelmo (three digs, one block), Tim Hauser (three digs) and Ivan DelBosque (one block, one ace).
Moran put down 13 kills and Anzelmo added nine, but those displays weren’t enough to spare the RedHawks (15-16) from defeat versus Benet. Recording eight kills each were Inzinga and Munro. The latter also topped Marist with 11 blocks, while Moran had five, plus three aces.
Hauser distributed 31 assists, Brian Barry had 15 digs, and Luke Mayer totaled 11 digs and two aces.
