Experience is paying dividends for the Oak Lawn boys swim team. With several swimmers having three years of varsity experience, the Spartans swam to a second-place finish at the South Suburban Conference meet at Evergreen Park on Feb. 15.
Diver Jeremy Gravelle placed first, and Luke Fritz won the 200 individual medley and finished second in the 100 butterfly. Mike Chowaniec took second in the 100 breaststroke and Alan Prymon finished second in the 500 freestyle.
The Spartans also got second-place finishes from the 200 medley relay (Prymon, Fritz, Gavin Sheehan and Chowaniec) and the 400 freestyle relay (Prymon, Fritz, Gravelle and Sheehan).
“Our team has been building for a couple years now, as many of our swimmers have been on varsity for three years,” said coach Ben Reiff, who was voted South Suburban Conference Coach of the Year. “It was nice to have many excellent time drops and see all of the guys’ hard work pay off. In the pool, it is often said that ‘what you put in is what you get out,’ and the team showed they have been grinding all year.”
